2-2 How are air compressors classified?

Air compressors can be classified by working principle, output pressure, output flow, cooler method, engine type, lubrication method, and basic configuration. Types include volumetric, speed-type, low to ultra-high pressure, micro to large size, water or air-cooled, electric or diesel-driven, oil-free or lubricated, and fixed or mobile.

Answer: There are many ways to classify air compressors. They can be classified according to working principle, structural form, performance parameters and other categories.
(1) Classification by working principle. They can be divided into volumetric air compressors and speed-type air compressors.
1) The working principle of a volumetric air compressor is to compress the volume of gas in the air compressor, speed up the movement of air molecules per unit volume to increase the kinetic energy of the gas, and then convert the kinetic energy of the gas molecules into pressure energy to increase the pressure of the compressed air. Common types include reciprocating (piston type, diaphragm type) and rotary (vane type, screw type).
2) Speed-type air compressors such as centrifugal compressors, axial flow compressors, and mixed flow compressors complete energy conversion through rotating turbines. The rotor achieves the above conversion by changing the kinetic energy and pressure of the air. The static diffuser reduces the air flow rate to achieve the conversion of kinetic energy into pressure.
(2) Classification by air compressor output pressure.
1) Low-pressure air compressor: 0.21.0MPa.
2) Medium-pressure air compressor: 1.010MPa.
3) High-pressure air compressor: 10100MPa.
4) Ultra-high-pressure air compressor:>100MPa.
(3) Classification by air compressor output flow (displacement).
1) Micro and small air compressors:.
2) Medium-sized air compressors:.
3) Large air compressors:.
(4) According to the cooler method, it can be divided into water-cooled and air-cooled air compressors. Water-cooled air compressors use cooling water open circulation cooling, and air-cooled air compressors use fan cooling.
(5) According to the different engines, air compressors can be divided into electric motor driven and diesel engine driven air compressors. Large electric compressors are equipped with a distribution cabinet, and diesel driven compressors are started by batteries. Both compressors have direct connection and side connection (i.e. belt drive).
(6) According to the lubrication method, air compressors can be divided into oil-free type and oil lubricated type. The latter is further divided into splash type and forced type (i.e. oil pump and oil injector oil supply lubrication type).
(7) According to the basic configuration of air compressors, air compressors can be divided into fixed type (with foundation type and without foundation type) and mobile type.
