10-17 Why does a clogged oil separator cause an overcurrent in the air compressor? How to determine if the oil separator is clogged?

Explores why clogged oil separators cause air compressor overcurrent and methods to determine separator blockage.
Case Details

Answer: When the pressure drop of the oil separator element exceeds 0.08MPa (the difference between the values displayed on the two pressure gauges: the pressure before the filter element and the exhaust pressure), the machine should be stopped and the oil-gas separation filter element should be replaced. This is because the machine unloading is based on the pressure after separation (exhaust pressure). If the unloading pressure of the machine is set to the rated pressure, the actual load of the motor is the rated pressure plus the pressure difference of 0.08MPa. The motor is overloaded and causes the motor to overcurrent.

How to determine if the oil separator is clogged;

(1) If the oil separator is damaged or broken, the oil content in the exhaust air increases, the refueling cycle is shortened, and in severe cases, all the lubricating oil will be taken away by the compressed air.

(2) When the oil separator is clogged, the motor load increases, the current increases, and the oil pressure increases. In severe cases, the motor thermal relay protection is activated.

(3) When the differential pressure of the oil separator differential pressure switch exceeds the set value (0.11MPa), the differential pressure switch operates, or when the internal timing time is zero, the control panel displays that the oil separator is blocked, indicating that the oil separator is blocked and should be replaced immediately.

(4)When the oil fine separator is blocked, not all of the above phenomena may occur. Once any of the phenomena occurs, it should be analyzed and judged according to the daily maintenance and repair records of the screw air compressor to avoid mistakenly judging that an unblocked oil fine separator has been replaced, resulting in economic losses.
